Dos Reales

Dos Reales is a great authentic Mexican restaurant in the Champaign/Urbana area. They have great food, a good size building, well set menu and nice waiters. My favorite part is that it is modern, but looks like a traditional mexican restaurant. There is a lot of open space and the tables are well set apart. When entering Dos Reales there is a waiter that greets you and walks you and your guest(s) to your table. After you have been seated, a waiter/waitress brings you chips with two different kinds of salsa and asks what you would like to drink.

The menu: I felt this is very well organized with plenty of options. The menu was set up from cheapest item to most expensive item. It was also was organized by appetizers, lunch, dinner, vegetarian, sides, and drinks. Unlike other mexican restaurants I have tried so far their options seemed more authentic to choose from and I really liked that. There is also a kids menu with items that even the pickiest child can choose from. The menu also has a section with traditional mexican drinks. I have heard they are really good and people should try them. I have yet to try them.

The food: I had the El Grande which is two huge tortillas. One tortilla is filled with shredded chicken and beans and the other with beef and beans. They are covered in queso, lettuce, guacamole and a slice of a tomato. After ordering the main entree, the waiter asked if I would like beans or rice. I chose rice. I received a generous helping. The food was amazing! I have never had Dos Reales until then. I am definitely going back soon!

I have to go try a few more of the mexican restaurants around this area but this one has been my favorite so far. I would recommend this place to everyone. If you have already gone I recommend you try something new. Next time I go I’m definitely trying something new even though I loved the El Grande. Their food is great, their menu is well set up and it is a very friendly environment. So if you have not yet tried Dos Reales I would recommend next time you are in Champaign, Illinois go try this great Mexican restaurant.
