Even though the inside dining area of all the restaurants are closed right now, some drive thrus are still open and serving. During this time, Portillo’s unique drive thru is one of those. Usually when you go to a drive thru, you place your order through a speaker, pay at the first window, and then get your food at a second window. Portillo’s is unique because they have several people outside taking orders and these same people take your payment. They have a hand held device they place your order with and it also can take your payment with a credit or debit card. You can also use cash. There can be anywhere from 1 to 3 people taking orders in the drive thru at a time depending on how busy it is. These people also go to the drive thru window checking on orders. When your order is finished they bring it to your car. When I went through the drive thru it seemed to be very efficient and worked well for this restaurant. I have never seen this at another restaurant.
Portillo’s has a wide variety of food choices, except with this virus they are not providing all of their many options. They are still offering different types of hamburgers, Chicago style hotdogs, italian beef, salads and a few more. You are still able to get sides with your order as well. My favorite is the italian beef with sweet peppers, french fries with a side of cheese, and a coke. I would highly recommend you try it. All the food is great but that is my go to when I order Portillo’s. Usually Portillo’s has a wide variety of salads, but right now they are only serving two different salads: chop and caesar. This of course is due to the virus. Another unique food is the Chicago style hotdogs. They are topped with mustard, relish, onion, two tomato slices, a pickle, and sport peppers. I was shocked the first time having one of them because I did not think it would
